Activities

Activities are implemented by the English teachers and take place in the afternoons from Monday to Thursday. Students participate in two activities each afternoon. Examples of activities are science experiments, art projects, yoga classes, soccer drills and tennis lessons. Many activities offer training from instructors in the related field for additional learning.

Teachers work with their students to strengthen their English skills during all activities. They encourage students to speak in English at all times, as well as to make friends from other countries!

Outings

All outings and sightseeing trips are lead and supervised by Bodwell Counselors. Our counselors live on-site to provide 24-hour care and supervision. They come from a variety of backgrounds such as education, recreation and counseling. Students are placed in groups.

Groups participate in hiking, canoeing, visiting famous attractions, exploring museums, and shopping, to name a few. Afterwards, groups participate in games and activities that develop trust and strengthens friendships.

Class + Culture

What’s English class like? What kinds of people do campers meet?

ENGLISH CLASS

Thematic English learning is fun & vital

Focused English Learning

Students will participate in 15 hours of English Classes every week from Monday to Friday. Classes are taught by BC certified teachers. Many specialize in teaching English as a second language. They engage students in learning with an interactive approach aiming to increase self-confidence particularly in oral communication.

Thematic Curriculum

Teachers are all trained to create an active learning environment through the use of games, projects, portfolio development and a wide variety of other activities. Daily classes include a variety of English lessons on grammar, reading, writing, and oral skills. The curriculum includes science, ecology, social, geography and leadership topics that were originally designed by Bodwell teachers along weekly program themes.

Recognition of Achievement

At the end of the Program students will participate in a Graduation Ceremony where they will be recognized for their hardwork during their stay. All students will receive a Completion Certificate, Report Card with group photo, and souvenirs!

CULTURAL EXPERIENCE

English skills & memories aren’t all students leave with

At Bodwell, we are proud to host a truly multicultural program with students joining every year from over 20 different countries! Our Canadian team including teachers, counselors, and administrative staff all encourage students to understand and appreciate cultures from around the world. Our itineraries are carefully planned to promote opportunities for students to learn about other cultures, including the culture of Canada. In addition, we carefully monitor the ratio of students from different countries in each English class and counselor group to provide a balanced mix of nationalities.

Students enjoy meeting others from around the world and learning from them. The friendships formed are invaluable to all who participate, including our diverse staff.
Every summer, our students leave with an expanded cultural experience and a broader global outlook on the world.
